DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES
The Department of Economics, A.S. College, Khanna, organized 15 th Dr. B.S.Minhas Memorial Lecture on 03 rd April 2023. This lecture has been delivered by Dr. Gurbachan Singh, Visiting Professor of Economics, Ashoka University, Sonepat (Haryana). In this Lecture, Dr. Gurbachan Singh, said that government should not mix the monetary policy with fiscal policy to target inflation and output. He emphasized on the need of a well-targeted interest rate policy that influence the interest income earners and for financial as well as real investors in a separate way.He concluded low subsidies and low taxes will adjust on their own rather than high subsidies and high taxes. Dr. Shiv Kumar, Head Department of Economics, performed the role of Stage secretary. On this occasion, scholarships in the name of Dr. B.S. Minhas and Mrs. Raj Minhas were also given to four students. Apart from this, nine students who obtained first position in university examinations in the Economics subject were also awarded by Sh. Ajay Bhandari in the memory of his father Sh. Balraj Bhandari.

Department of Economics organized 14 th Dr. B.S. Minhas Memorial Lecture on “Labor Mobility in India” delivered by Dr. Neeraj Kaushal, Professor of Social Policy, School of Social Work, Columbia University, New York, USA, on March 08, 2022. In this Lecture, Dr. Neeraj Kaushal said that firstly the labor migration facilitates economic growth and reduces geographic inequality, and secondly, many dimensions of internal migration in India, e.g. inter-state labor migration for work, show low levels of mobility compared to mobility in other large countries. As a result, while there is evidence of economic convergence between districts in India, inter-state inequalities have been growing. Thirdly, internal migration for work is the most efficient and effective antidote to poverty. Political leaders and policy makers treat internal migration as a menace that needs to be curtailed with welfare programs like MGNREGA, food for work programs etc. Dr.  Swaminathan S. Anklesaria Aiyar, Research Fellow, Centre for Global Liberty and Prosperity, CATO Institute, Washington DC, USA was also present in this occasion. On this occasion, scholarships in the name of Dr. B.S. Minhas and Mrs. Raj Minhas were also given to twelve students. Apart from this, forty nine students who obtained first position in university examinations in the Economics subject were also awarded by Sh. Ajay Bhandari in the memory of his father Sh.
